When auto-blending two faces, Masks are all one color Photoshop CC2018

When trying to blend together two faces using the auto blend tool, it creates a new layer called (merged) but doesn't merge the layers and the layer masks for the two images I was trying to merge have completely black and a completely white layer mask. Please Help!

Just try not to rely on masks. Auto blend put similar pixels from the first layer above their counterparts from the other one.
