White .png file importing as grey

Trying to import a simple white png file into my PS project but the tone changes to grey when it should be 100% white. Both images are set to RGB 8 bit and there are no  B&W adjustment or other layers applied. Opacity is at 100%. This is so annoying and trying to google the problem is only bringing up answers about transparency which is not the issue for me.

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible. 

What are the Edit > Color Settings?
