Why are thousands of images I've worked on being copied to Local/Adobe/CAI/PersistedData?

I was suprised and concerned to discover today while browsing around files on my computer that thousands of images I've worked on in photoshop this year have been quietly copied to a directory on my computer at:

AppData/Local/Adobe/CAI/PersistedData

CAI appears to be adobe's Content Authenticity Initiative and seems to be related to tracking the origin of an image and what has been done to it.

- Why are files I work on being copied here?
- What is Adobe doing with these files of mine?
- Do these files get uploaded to Adobe?

- How do I opt out of this behavior?

It's a global initiative to authenticate images and prevent misuse, deep-fakes and so on. Unless you enable this you don't have that folder.

As far as I can tell I never had the feature enabled, as it seems like a massive privacy violation that I would never be interested in, but the last file to get copied over happens to be on the same date as my latest Photoshop update, so it wouldn't surprise me if something changed then. Unfortuantely I cannot prove it post-upgrade.

I suspect there was a bug where things were being copied over and it has since been patched, but again I can't prove that. I'd be curious if anyone else noticed this folder that has no recollection of turning it on.

Regardless, I'll delete the folder and hope it doesn't return.
