both are in the RGB color space—why is the color of the artwork changing so much? I get the same result no matter how I bring the artwork into Photoshop.

I used transparency flattener in illustrator first before bringing the artwork into Photoshop and that fixed the colors.

What color profiles are you using in each?

I would go into Adobe Bridge>Edit Menu>Color Settings and make sure that:

1. The color profile is synced

2. If not, choose a color profile and apply.

3. Double check settings in PS and AI to make sure they match and are not converting when going between the two.
