Why do I have to click on my image before I can do anything in photoshop?

Why do I have to click on my image before I can do anything in photoshop?  I can't even enlarge or change to tool I want to use unless I click on the image first.

@lkf23 Is this a recent issue? Did you recently upgrade to Sonoma?

I do have Sonoma at home and photoshop does not do this.   Maybe I need to update to Sonoma.

I hope someone answers this questions at some point because it drives me crazy! Every time I use a third party plugin and come back to PS I have to click anywhere on the screen before I can do anything. It's been doing this for over a year. So frustrating. Did not used to do this.

Sounds like an issue with the plugin as that is not normal PS behavior.

I wish it happened only with a plugin. For example, when I open an image from Lightroom Classic (Command-E on a Mac), it happens. I know I used to use Photoshop without this happening, but now it happens whenever I am either starting PS or when I am coming back into PS from a plug-in (like Nik Collection). If you have any other suggestions I would be happy to try!
