It is not recommended over newer cards. Where did you hear that? It will not do particularly well with the new AI-powered functions.

Today, RTX 4060 or 4070 is pretty much optimal for Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop is using GPU for computations so more computation power helps. In this chart look for bigger number on the right side, bigger/better PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - GPU Compute Video Cards

Here is another chart which may have role in your conclusion or in other people conclusions that is not quite right, its just value per computation power or best value for money PassMark Videocard Value Chart - Performance / Price of Videocards (videocardbenchmark.net) Higher G3D

I binged the question; what card to get in the new computer and the ressponse said it was more stable for Photoshop than gaming cards. I was going to choose an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 (12 GB GDDR6 dedicated), Display Connectors: HDMI*1, DP*3 because it had more GB tha the higher numbered cards ---which to me seem strange too. I don't know what the different cards do. There is a 3060 card with Ti function(?) but only  8 GB. There is a new card added to the selection today NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti (12 GB which is 12 GB and Ti  and adds over a thousand $ to the price doubling the cost of the computer. There is also a  NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 (10 GB) and a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Ti (12 GB ) at  +$770.  Is Ti an advantage for running Photoshop? I don't know what Ti refers to but will bing it and ask Nvidia about it.

NVIDIA Ti is a suffix label for some NVIDIA graphics cards that means Titanium123. It indicates that the card is more powerful than the non-Ti version with the same model number.

So I am looking at NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Ti (12 GB GDDR6X dedicated) at +$770 instead of NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti (12 GB) at +$1050.

The model numbers can seem confusing, but the 4000 series is a newer generation that replaces the 3000 series. Within each generation, the last two digits tell you capabilities and price of the card. It starts with the modest -50, and goes all the way up to the ridiculously expensive -90.

For Photoshop/ACR/Lightroom, the -60 or -70 models seem to be the sweet spot. They will perform really well, while not emptying your bank account.

If you do advanced 3D modeling, a 4090 is probably worth the price. For Photoshop it's overkill/wasted. Although it will cut through some specialized AI functions like a knife in hot butter, it won't make much difference for most everyday work.

I have one machine with a 3060 / 12GB, and one with a 4060 Ti / 16GB. They both work splendidly. For specialized AI functions like Denoise, the 4060 Ti is about 20% faster.
