Why is my image moving all over the screen in Photoshop 2023?

I'm not sure what to even call this.  I've tried looking it up and tried everything I found an nothing is working. When I open an image in Photoshop to edit it, it's fine when it's fit on the screen, but when I zoom in, it just starts moving across the screen!  Like wandering off to the left.  It was working fine yesterday. Browswer windows seem to be working fine, in some of my Windows apps it's doing it too (scrolling for no reason). 

I'm using Photoshop 2023 and Windows 11, ASUS Tuf Gaming Laptop

Here is what I've tried so far:

1. Turn off Overscroll in Photoshop 

2. Uninstall the last 3 Windows Updates

3. Update the NVIDIA driver

NOTHING has worked. It's still doing the same exact thing. I can't edit pictures if they won't stay still when I zoom in! Please tell me it's something stupid that I'm just not seeing.  I tried to google it and most results told me how to make animated pictures. Not at all what I want. I want them to STOP moving. Thank you!

I can not reproduce on Win 11 running 24.0.1 Photoshop so its not bug.

Under Preferences > Tools, try unchecking "Animated Zoom."

Ok, it was animated zoom!!  It's so weird, I had edited like 25 photos then it just started doing that all of a suddent, and I didn't change any settings at all. Odd.

This fault has just happened to me and Ive tried changing preferences, turning off animated zoom but that didn't solve it. I have nvidia driver and windows 11 plus latest photoshop. Its also affecting premier pro as well. Are there any other solutions I could try?

Perhaps try resetting Photoshop preferences?

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes. 

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references. 

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

  Note for those on macOS: - be aware that the user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.

  In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key. 

  Library will now appear in the list - below the current user's “home” directory. ]

Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions, 

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop. 

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first. 

(See above about preserving preferences though! Its worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

If this is the same problem that happens to me then it's been happening for over two years through all the updates.
What happens for me is after using photoshop for a little while, when i zoom, it moves the photo erratically all over the screen. The biggest problem for me is that when this happens, any tool I try to use also moves erratically all over the screen. So if I'm trying to use a brush tool, it will leave a line zig zagging across the page.

I am using a Windows Surface Pro 7 (Windows 11 Home version 22H2)

Hi, @shootr007 and @NicolePHI could you set the status bar  (the info area at the bottom left of the document window to "GPU mode" and report the info that it gives you? which GPU do you have and what is the date of its driver (does HELP>GPU info give you some warning?)

I have just sorted this. It was a hardware issue. The bluetooth sender for the mouse needed to be re inserted into usb port.

Yeah, that was driving me nuts, too.  My fix For the Mac:

Settings > Tools

deselect Overscroll

Not sure why that didn't work for you on the Windows version.
