Why is number of recent files to display turned off in adobe Illustrator and Photoshop 2023

Since the updates to the 2023 versions, the section in Preferences is grayed out. I cannot find a way to reconnect to recent files. I have searched Google, but get old answers that have not been fruitful.

Any assistance would help.

Why the move to Photoshope Ecosystem? This is a multiple application problem?

You posted in the "using the community" which is for questions/issues about the actual forum itself.

You need to post a question about a particular application on the appropriate forum, so if you have a question/issue with Photoshop you post it in the Photoshop ecosystem

Have you tried resetting your preferences and restarting Photoshop
