Hello,
I use the "Merge all layers into a new layer" function every day, with the shortcut: Cmd-Alt-Shift-E

However, I do NOT understand why this function is non-existent in any Photoshop menu !!! The only way to use this function is to know the secret shortcut!!!!

Why is that?
Adobe: Could you please add this function to the "Layers" menu please!

- Merge visible layers INTO A NEW Layer !

Thank you!
The forums and internet are full of people wasting their time looking for this secret function!!!!

Why is that?

By @Cyan_282

I am a volunteer and do not work for Adobe, so I can't institute this change, but I can answer your "why" question.

Way back long, long ago, the way we did this was with this method:

  • copy the layers
  • hide the originals
  • merge visible (Cmd+Shift+E)
  • unhide originals

Then Adobe added what is now known as the "Do It Better" key to the mix and we were so thrilled that we never looked to see if Stamp Visible was an actual menu item. In those days we didn't have user forums and tended to accept most things.

I can see where having Stamp Visible as a menu item could be useful to new users.
