Content aware PASTE

There is a Content aware Fill (which works better and better in every update!)

There is a Content aware Move tool (which cuts a selected fragment and places it into another area of the same layer). What about making a Content aware PASTE to work with different layers?

For fast compositing without precise manual masking. Would be great!

Practically, it's similar to the Content aware Move tool, but should work between different layers.

So, you've already got this functionality inside, just add it to the Paste menu as a new command.

Just came across this short tutorial on blending images https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0st3Drk0Lrs

So, there is already an Auto-Blend option, which is mainly used for panoramas.

In case you need a face swap or add another element from another image, you have to make some additional steps - erase the area which is to be replaced. Otherwise the result would be messy.

So, the new Harmonization neural filter is very close to what I wanted.

But it requires accurate masking of the subject first (which is quite simple already).

Paste creates new layer it does not work with existing layers.   How do you envision a content aware paste would  work with different layers? Explain you concept of your content aware paste feature. How would it work? What content would it be aware of?   It sounds like you want it to automatically exact object in the clipboards  content and paste  paste known object rather then pasting the clipboard into a new layer.  Paste in extracted objects or extracted subject into a new layer make a past object feature.  You have an object select tool.  You can copy an object to the clipboart now.  You can also refine the object selection before you copy the object to the clipboard.

Accurate selection is still a problem if the background is busy or the same tone and color, etc.

Certainly, you can make a quick rough mask and feather it.

Content Aware Paste could be a nice feature for amateurs and beginners, I guess. A "magic button" for those who are not familiar with masking yet, but want to make a meme, a funny picture of their friend on the Moon or with a dinasaur, etc 🙂 So, the Adobe could expand their audience.

It could be useful for professional compositing artist as well to make quick drafts for clients.

If it could paste on a separate layer with a mask, would be great! (non-destructive editing)

Here's a regular workflow for any composite:

1) selecting a subject (manually or with a command)

2) adjusting the mask edge

3) adjusting the hue,

4) ... saturation

5) ... and tone to match the new background.

I suggest to automate steps 2-5 with one command.

Taking into consideration that they already have all the functionality!

I'll enumerate again: Content Aware Move, Content Aware Fill, Sky Replacement.

Just COMBINE everything together! and make that magic button, guys!

When an image is difficult  content aware selection does not work well. The Object selection tool and Select subject tools  do not work well.  There are two flavors of Content  Aware Fill one is an interactive workspace.  Sky Replacement is also an interactive workspace that create multiple layers.  How do you want  your interactive Paste Aware Workspace UI to work detail the operation of your Paste Aware workspace and types of layers it will create. Magic is an illusion not a button...

Ideally, we should get a new Group with:

1) the object layer with a feathered mask (the feature itself implies that we select the subject manually and roughly)

2) the Adjustment layer of Curves (and probably Hue-Saturation) matching the tone and color

So you want Adobe to create a new paste aware feature like the sky replacement feature where you can manually adjust  a content aware selection the feature creates for the pasted clipboard image and its applied as a layer mask.

I pointed out you can basically do what you want done using select subject and select object and refine selection before you copy to the clipboard.    IMO no new paste feature is required.  You put in the clipboard what you wan to past into a layer. If you do not refine selection first before copy when you past in the clipboard  you cans do a content aware solution on the pasted in layer refine it and add it as a layer mask.   Is that not basically the same as the new manual feature your asking for your paste aware feature.  In all cases its a manual process you refine a selection.

If you like "manual process", do everything with a clone stamp 🙂 Why do they make all those improvements and automated features? to save user's time! 2 clicks are faster than 5 steps I mentioned. Couldn't users replace the sky before? or remove smth with a clone stamp? Stop criticizing the technical progress.

Not all Content aware feature are fully automatic and content aware features do not always work well on all images.  Sky replacement has all sorts of sliders you adjust manually to tweak  the replacement.  Content Aware fill has a whole workspace with tools, sliders, preview etc.  Content Aware Scale has options  controls etc it is manual process.  Content Aware is not magic.  It more of less give you a starting point that sometimes you may find acceptable for what your are doing. Content aware assist you to make doing some things easier.   I'm not against adding a Paste Content Aware Feature. I'm asking you to describe it's implementation its UI  how is it going  to work how will it assist our work flow.

Adobe has improved selecting things over the years. However, all thing Adobe has done to Photoshop are mot always an improvement.  Help Adobe develop a Paste aware feature that will be useful and easy to use.
