P: Ability to customize tool bar

Workspace Feature: I would like for the tools in the toolbar to also be apart of how I customize my workspace. I would like the option of disabling certain tools from the toolbar. As a result, whenever I choose my preferred workspace, I use the tools specifically for the project at hand.

Could you add the ability to freely managing of the bar of icons? I want to drag a one of tools and drop to another place in the bar of icons. This option will help us to customize of software.

Photoshop has a lot of tools, and depending on the work you're doing, having all of them present isn't necessary. Additionally a lot of the tools are hidden beneath each other which requires an extra click to access them.

Adobe Illustrator introduced custom toolbars to help with this. The tool panels there can also be assigned to different work spaces. I would love to see this feature added to Photoshop.

I know there's the Adobe Configurator but this would be a much faster and user friendly way of allowing people to customize their UI. The custom tool panels in Adobe Illustrator also still show the colors. Is that possible in the Configurator?

I would like a way to create my own tool bar with frequently used tools. Instead of having to manually select between multiple instances of a tool (the eraser for example) or using Shift-E, I would like a way to select the one I use always and use ONLY that one.
Also to rearrange the tools in the order desired.

Been using PhotoShop for years and this is my first post.

I have two suggestions that I think would enhance the PhotoShop experience . . .

1 The ability to create your own palette of tools that one uses frequently, and not have to make three clicks to get to a tool.

2 Give Content Aware Fill it's own lasso. Often I use this tool with a 33% feathering attribute when selecting part of an image, but I have to change it to zero when switching to Content Aware Fill use.

I was on the brink of looking into alternative software since Configurator won't work with recent versions of PS.

Yes, we did a lot of work along these lines and we it does give you control of what's in a given slot as well as what shortcut is associated with it. Hope you like it! 8-)

Custom toolbar :-)
Although shortcuts and actions speed up my daily workflow there is one thing
i wish for. When editing about a 100 images/day speed is important.

A slim toolbar were the user can decide on the specific functions.
By clicking a + sign on the scrolldownmenus function it will appear on the custom tollbar. When editing huge amount of images this small function would reduce several clicks and speed up the workflow. Perhaps about 10 possible functions on the toolbar would be great.

The addition of the customized tool palette is an overdue step forward, but it does not help with accessing tools under the file, adjustments and filter menus etcetera.

Multiple time consuming/annoying clicks are still needed to access one's favorite tools buried under those menus.

What are the prospects for a custom palette for such tools please?

With Configurator I had such access until newer PS versions negated it's use, so it can be done.

If Adobe want my $10 a month for the remainder of my days, they're going to have to address this sooner than later.

'Button mode' is not something I'm familiar with, but actions in general I've set up . . . but one has to settle for a pre-determined percentage. Not ideal.

I could be missing your point, but accessing one's favorite tools should be a simple task - Configurator-style again - and not involve laborious set-up efforts.

Menu commands are rather different than Toolbar tools. If you have certain Menu commands that you use often, for many, many years Photoshop has included the ability to customize your keyboard shortcuts. This way, you choose the Menu command you'd like and set a shortcut for instant access. You can set shortcuts via Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

Remember, one user's "vital" tool is another's "useless" tool. We've tried to strike a balance while allowing each of you the ability to optimize for your specific workflow.

I use keyboard shortcuts but they have limitations too, i.e. one can't use 'S' because it's needed for saving the document.

It doesn't sound as if Adobe has any intention of adding a way to simplify access preferred menu commands, which would consequently speed up everyone's workflow.

Adobe doesn't seem to care that the issue drives users away. Configurator kept my own and my client's dollars rolling in Adobe's direction for a few more years, but now that is dead . . . .

Uh, I'm confused.

Photoshop has allowed for user customization of menu commands for more than a decade. In fact, it's probably a better implementation than I've seen in any commercial application on the market, handling pretty much any keyboard layout, in fact. As a result, I'm not sure what the problem you're having is.

If you want to simplify access to a preferred menu command, just set a custom shortcut for it. Problem solved...and in the 1990s, I'm pretty sure.

And there's no reason you cannot use S -- other than, yes, it will remove the shortcut from Save. But given the number of keyboard combinations vs the number of potential menu commands, sheer volume makes it impossible to map every one to a shortcut, so something has to give. Again, we've chosen an "optimized set" but you can customize to your heart's content.

Nearly every command under each menu heading is completely customizable and has been since the words "cellular" and "telephone" were meaningless together. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with this option, but there is not a thing you've described that hasn't been already fully addressed since before most people knew what a dot.com was and back when Survivor was a band, not a TV show.

If you have a complaint, please state it clearly. If you cannot, we cannot address it.
