What is your setting for File Handling? By default, for documents that were already saved prior to Save As, Photoshop will default to the same location as the original file/folder.
Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for pointing to this new option!
But it only solves halve the problem, export format settings need to be set each time you use save-as!
I am having this same problem. When I export, it always defaults to my desktop, so EVERY TIME I export a graphic, I have to navigate through many folders to get to the save destination. This is extremely annoying... especially when I have several iterations of the same graphic that I need to save in one spot.
This is still a problem. If I am working with a couple of existing images, all existing in the same directory, and I try to export a PNG, it ALWAYS defaults to my windows HOME directory. I NEVER use that directory and in fact do not store "work" on the OS drive at all, but this stupid thing, rather than looking at the set of images I am working with and deriving the proper folder from that, I have to manually click through the folders to where my other files ALREADY are just to save a new file there. It's annoying as hell and even if it can't be changed to behave properly, I should be able to TELL photoshop what directory I want to use as the default rather than photoshop telling ME. At least I could point it to a folder that is a lot closer to where I need to be than the damn home directory.
Very annoying. Finally upgraded to CC today and so disappointed this is the default behavior. EVERY app on my computer remembers the last save location in the file dialog by default, but not Adobe? It's like they decided to override the Mac OS default on this...
Yeah why do I have to tell PS *every* *single* *time* where I want to save? JUST REMEMBER IT. I'm working with so many images I swear it would save me a lot of time if I didn't have to manually specify the folder each time.
with file save options (in preferences) you can set save to original folder yes/no This remembers last folder with a save action. You can't set to remember last picture format however....
Hi all, this is really annoying me, but I found a temporary workaround - if you save your PSD in the folder where you want to export your files, the file explorer window will default to the same filepath as your PSD. Let's hope adobe doesn't take this as a "fix" that they don't need to solve cause this is such a basic feature...
EDIT: I just discovered that after saving my PSD to a filepath, the dialogue remembers my last save destination, it doesn't always default to the PSD folder.
Gosh this is so extremely annoying. For me it was working fine until recently (i.e. Photoshop rememembered the path and was saving all files to the location where I saved the previous file), but recently, I suspect starting from the automatic upgrade to Photoshop cc 2022, it suddenly started to save the files to the location from where I imported the tiff, although "Save as to original folder" was unticked. Whether this option is ticked or unticked, it always tries to save to the location from where I imported the tiff, and I have to tell Photoshop every single time where I want to save. Why oh why...
Hi, I've solved it finding out that te command "cmd, shift,s" was referring to "save a copy" and not "save as". Changing the keyboard commands fixed all.
This setting works to remember a single folder - not the last folder my image was saved to. Lots of different projects benath the single folder that PS remembers. Why can't it remember the LAST folder a file was saved to??
Hi @Karen31158227tdo1 you're posting on a 7 year old thread. If that setting is active, Photoshop should direct you back to the same folder/location you opened the individual file was originally located in. That setting does not designate a single location to save files.
Hi @Kevin_Stohlmeyer - I was actually tryinf to respond to an earlier comment about Exporting to PNG (example). I like the File > Export > Quick Export as PNG feature, but it doesn't remember the last saved-to folder.
Kevin, it's telling that seven years later this still has not been solved. The problem is that when I tell Lightroom to "Edit in Photoshop 2023", and edit the file in PS 2023, and then Save As, it tries to save to the last folder where I saved a .PSD file. It does NOT save to the original folder where the .NEF file is located. As I move through folders, editing images in LR and opening in PS, it's very annoying to have to remember to change the target folder every time I save the first .PSD with a batch of .NEF files I've just opened from LR. Once I save the first .PSD in the batch, the rest all save to that folder. But the "Save to original folder" setting does NOT work when files are sent from LR to PS.
Dec 2024 and this is still a problem, it changed by it self and I had no ide why PS suddenly did not remember the last save folder, thanks for the 9-year-old advice. No wonder Adobe stock is down all year
