Why can't I set alignment to canvas in preferences or to last used?

Why isn't it possible to set alignment to canvas in preferences, or keep it at the last used option? I add a year to my images for special purposes and have to set alignment to canvas each time when I start PS. Shouldn't be that difficult but will make life easier.

Thanks!

I wonder the same - it is VERY frustrating not to be able to set that in preferences!

It isn't handled properly in actions or scripting either, no way to set selection vs. canvas... Best bet is to always use selection and a select all which does the same thing as canvas.

Very frustrating indeed. It's also something I need to do on a daily basis.

I created an Action. Before recording, first selct your layer/s you want to work with. Then hit record on the action:

> Select All (⌘A)

> Align Horizontal Centre

> Alignt Vertical Centre

> Deselct (⌘D)

To speed things up you can give it a keyboard command.

agree.
does my head in that it doesn't just remember the last setting.  So many examples across all the programs like preserve black and white and grey in recolour tool in illustrator.
