I loaded an animated GIFF into Photoshop (latest version).

How to recover my original non-Photoshop version?

What happened to your non-Photoshop version? Do you have a backup of it somewhere?

Thank you for responding. You are the only one who has.

Thank you for responding; you are the only one who did.

When I opened my animated GIFF in Photoshop, I thought the oritinal (in GIFF format) would be retained but I could find it nowhere. The GIFF format was more versatile, so I am stuck with the .psd format.

I don't thinbk psd can be converted back to GIFF.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Eddie

Did you delete your original GIFF format File?

When Photoshop open an Animated  Gif there is a Frame Animation time lime and a Photoshop layer for the content of each frame.

When I export save for web an animated gif from my two layer PSD with a 150 frame animation time line. When I open the saved animated gif in Photoshop the Photoshop Document has 150 layers.  Not two layers like my psd.

Capture.jpg

So my PSD still has two layers.   The open gif document has 150 layers it is an opened gif document not an opened PSD document.    My PSD has two layers.

Mr Mack, many thanks for your fine comments.

It happens that I found the orginal GIFF clip in some other folder that I had overlooked.

But your remarks are appreciated.

Hi @Eddie0D4C,

I'm not sure I understand your workflow.  Are you saying you saved OVER your original file and didn't keep a backup copy somewhere?  Did you use your OS file manager (Mac Finder or Win File Explorer) to Search your hard drive for the original file?

That said, Photoshop can certainly create animated GIFs for you.   See this video tutorial.  If it's TL;DR, FFWD to 8:30 in the timeline.

Hope that helps.

Hi, Nancy, many thanks for responding.

I did find my original GIFF clip via File Explorer, so all's well.

(I discovered that you cannot save a .psd file as a GIFF file.)

Thanks so much for that tutorial on making an animated GIFF in P/Shop.

There were several elements that were unfamiliar to me.

Thank you again.
