Photoshop saves files without extensions - this is a major bug which can affect macros and has been present for over a year.
The last few years of Adobe software have been horrific in terms of QC and I've been working in CGI for 25 years. Its sad that Adobe has outsourced its development to random contractors in 3rd world countries - this is what happens.

What operating system are you using?
In the operating system; windows file explorer or mac finder, one has to enable the showing of file extensions.

Go File > Save As > the filename extension is missing. A save results in a file that windows can't recognize and asks what to do with.
Hide file type extensions for known file types is disabled in Windows so the extension should be visible.

I've never seen that behaviour here on any version of Photoshop up to, and including, the current v22.4.2 and using Windows 10.
Try resetting preferences

Are you saying that even in the File>Save As dialog there is no extension shown or you aren't seeing the file extension in windows file explorer?
All file types such as jpeg and psd or another file type?
What exact version of photoshop are you using as listed in Help>System Info from within photoshop?
Your using Windows 10?
Have you tried resetting the photoshop preferences by going to Edit>Preferences>General, clicking on Reset Preferences On Quit and restarting photoshop?
