Font resizing and layer choosing is acting strange...

Photoshop 22.4.2 is acting strange. The font sizes are following different rules than the ones I set. The layer I pick keeps changing from the one I choose to add the font. Resizing the font or anything else is not an immediate option.  - Macbookpro. Anybody having similar experiences?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
