Frequency Seperation not working

Hi, ive been using the same frequency seperation technique  for years & recently it isnt quite working for me properly.

ive checked all my settings countless times.

The problem specifically is my clone stamp tool isnt copying the full image,(on any layer) rather its leaving a faint or transparent image over what im painting.

ive uninstalled, reset the tools, & i even factory reset my computer.

Nothing has worked, yet somehow it works without the frequency seperation technique.

Perhaps checking against another method will help to isolate the issue?

Or perhaps all you need to do is reset the clone stamp tool and or reset preferences (which I don't believe are removed when reinstalling).
