How to stop Photoshop from setting default character settings?

Hi,

I am using Photoshop CC.
Sorry if this is so basic it hurts, but I will learn a lot and be very grateful if someone can help me figure out how to  get my type characters back to "normal" meaning they don't have some settings pre-set like "bold", "superscript" and some "fi" button.

I guess it is something I did which I need to learn what that was so I can do it when I need it but for now I need to clear those preset buttons out.

I wll try to attach a screen shot here.

Thank you so much.

chris

If you select the Type tool and make adjustments in the Character panel (Window > Character), you set the default for what the Type tool will create anytime you click to add type. So, to set it back, select the Type tool again (without clicking on the canvas) and reset the Character attributes to what you want.

Hi Chris,

To get the Type tool back to its original defaults, right-click the Type tool in the options bar (not Tools panel) and choose Reset tool. That will clear out all customization. Then follow Myra's instructions to choose what you want. Those settings will remain in place across documents until you change them again.
