Layer opacity synchronized to layers of the duplicated image - how to disable that?

Hi, when I duplicate an image and lower the opacity of a layer, oftentimes but not always, the opacity of the layer that was last selected from the other image will change also to the same value.. It is extremely annoying.. how to disable that?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
