Pen tool problem

The pen tool in the recent update to Photoshop is cumbersome. Everytime I attempt to make a curve, another anchor is automatically added in, throwing me off and creating an unneeded curve to my work. Is there a way for me to disable it? If not, I want the programmers to fix this issue.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Paths, Options Bar, …) visible? 

Haveyou reset the Tool yet?

If that did not help have you tried resetting the Photoshop Preferences altogether?
