Hi there,

Since I bought my new MacBook a few months ago (16inch, 2019, i9, Radeon Pro 5500M 4GB) PhotoShop keeps crashing randomly without any specific reason. It just shuts down in the middle of doing something (drawing, moving layers around, etc.). I tried resetting my preferences and updating PS, but nothing solved the problem.

4GB of RAM isn't enough – upgrade to 16GB or more.

Have you also plenty of spare hard disk capacity?

The graphics card has 4GB VRAM. I have 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD.

Have you tried resetting your Photoshop preferences, which you can do under the General tab in Photoshop preferences?

Yes, I did do that but it didn't solve the problem.

Try unticking "Use Graphics Processor "under the Performance tab in Preferences.

Also, get your graphics card checked.

If that doesn't resolve the issue consider uninstalling Photoshop using the Adobe Cleaner Tool and reinstalling it again: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

My graphics card works fine with everything else, I highly (!) doubt that that's the issue. Final Cut Pro or After Effects never even crashed once and video games work without any issues. I guess I will try the reinstall, but I'm pretty sure I did that before.

Photoshop 2021 is EXTREMELY unstable on Windows, I switched to 2020 to be able to process my photos without issues.
