Smart Object Filters

I recently began having issues with the smart object - filters. I had been utilizing them regularly then all of a sudden I kept getting the message "Could not process your request, program error". I'm able to convert the layer into a smart object but when I try to apply the "blur" filter I get this message. Has anyone experienced this before? If so, how do I fix this?
