Add Text to multiple photos

I am new to Adobe photoshop and Adobe elements.  I am trying to write text to an album or collection of JPG files.  The same text to multiple files.  I have seen some postings about automating a series of steps, but clicking on automation tools does nothing.  Help?

Go to File>Process Multiple Files and use the Watermark option to add custom text to your images:
