AVI file does not play when opening the file in Photoshop Elements running on MAC
If I open the file directly from the drive it runs perfectly in QuikTimePlayer with pictyer and sound

Why?
Does Element use another videoplayer?

Photoshop Elements is a photo editor.   Did you mean Premiere Elements?

Or are you talking about the Organizer?

Avi files play fine for me in the Organizer on Windows.  I can't tell you anything about Macs.

Are you getting any error message?  Please give us a screenshot.

Avi files are merely a container for other formats, so the ability to play them generally relies on the codec that was used for the video/audio streams within the file.

Without getting into more detail, one easy solution for you may be to transcode the avi files to mp4 using Handbrake which is a free utility.

That's not an unusual problem.  Did you try Handbrake?

I have Movavi Video Converter which works fine but converting 2000 files is a bit of a boring task;-)
One really drawback is that when converting you dont get the orginal file date  propertie which i use when showing the videos on a timeline.

I must say it really annoying to be able to play AVI files on my Mac with Quiktime but playback the same file through Adobe Elements organizer does not work.
ciao
