Camera Raw 17.3 as a plugin in Photoshop 2025

Community Beginner ,
May 02, 2025 May 02, 2025

I just recently bought Elements 2025 to match my new camera Nikon Z5 II. Nikon Z5 II is supported in Camera Raw 17.3 and Camera Raw is supporting Photoshop Elements så i figured everything would work. However, when installning Elements 2025 I found that it comes with Camera Raw 17.0 and that version does not support my camera Nikon Z5 II. I have not been able to update to Camera Raw 17.3 from inside Photoshop 2025. I have tried to download and install Camera Raw 17.3 as a separate plug in but it does not pop up inside Photoshop Elements.

How can I update to Camera Raw 17.3 to work inside Elements 2025?

Do all this, you will be fine:

Download and install the latest Camera Raw version from https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html

Quit all Adobe applications.

On macOS, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.

On Windows double-click the downloaded .zip file to unzip it.
(Windows might unzip the file for you.)

On macOS, double-click the .pkg file to start the installer.

On Windows, double-click the resulting .exe file to start the installer.

Follow the on-screen instruction

Once installed successfully, close the installer window.

 Navigate to the following folder:

On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats

On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats

Copy the Camera Raw plug-in (just the .8bi file) from the CC > File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.

Navigate to the following folder:

On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements<Version Number>\File Formats

Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied earlier.

Thank you very much Glenn, this solved my Camera Raw issue and now it is working as expected 🙂

The replacement of the Camera Raw plug in file did the trick.

I also have another related issue, maybe you can help me out with that too?

I used to run Topaz DeNoise AI as a plug in under Photoshop Elements 2021. When updated to Photoshop Elements 2025 I cant get it to show up as a plug in even after having deinstalled and reinstalled Topas DeNoise AI after the installation of Photoshop Elements 2025. Is there some magic replacement to be done in this situation as well?

Very thankful for your help!

Best Regards

  3. 3. Add the plugin to Photoshop Elements:

  4. 4. Restart Photoshop Elements:

Restart the software to ensure the plugin is properly loaded.
  5. 5. Access DeNoise AI:
    .Opens in new tab
Once Photoshop Elements is open, you can find DeNoise AI within the Filter menu.
Key Features of DeNoise AI:
  • Noise reduction:
DeNoise AI uses AI to intelligently remove noise from images, while preserving important details like skin texture, according to Topaz Labs.

  • Various AI models:
The software offers different AI models, including standard clear, low light, and severe noise, allowing users to choose the best model for their image.

  • Standalone or plugin:
DeNoise AI can be used either as a standalone application or as a plugin within Photoshop and other supported software.
    • Compatibility:
Some users have successfully used older versions of Topaz DeNoise AI in Photoshop Elements 2025, according to a thread on the Adobe Community.

    • Upgrade Issues:
If your version of DeNoise AI is a "Legacy" plugin, it might be difficult to upgrade to newer versions, as Topaz no longer sells it separately.

    • Topaz Photo AI:
Topaz DeNoise AI is now part of Topaz Photo AI, a more comprehensive photo editing tool. You may need to consider purchasing Topaz Photo AI if you want to use the latest features and improvements, according to PCMag.

    • Manual Installation:
Some users have reported issues with the plugin automatically showing up in Photoshop Elements after the latest AI update. You might need to manually add the plugin file to the appropriate folder, as described in a thread on Topaz

try adding the plugin file to the Elements folders in this location:
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins

You can find the Topaz Photo AI plugin file in the following location, and then copy and paste it into the Elements # folders in the above location.
      C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC

Thank you again Glenn, now you have helped me solving also my issue with Topaz DeNoise AI. Even in this case the trick was to manually move the plugin file to the right location for Elements 2025 to find it. Now it works as a filter plug in in Photoshop Elements as expected.

Sincerely tank you for your kind and valuable help!
