Camera Raw for PSE 9 [Unable to open Sony A6000 Raw files]

Hi

I have PSE9 which I find very user friendly (even better than the trial version of PSE15 which I find the UI very amateurish).

I now have a Sony A-6000 camera and want to start using the RAW file option. However when I try to open a ARW file, I get an error message.

>>

"Unable to use Camera Raw Plug-in.

It is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements"

<<

When I look at the Plug-in option in Help/About Plug-in, the Camera Raw version I have loaded is 6.50.216.

But using the update option, I am told that I am up to date.

Is it possible to update the Camera Raw version in my PSE9, and if so how do I do it?

Thanks

Any help will be much appreciated.

CK

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

The A6000 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.4 which is only compatible with PSE 12 and later. So you'll never be able to open those Raw files in PSE9.

Options:

  1. Upgrade to PSE15 (requires a 64 bit computer), or
  2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter, batch convert folders of Raw files to DNG format, then edit the DNG files (not the Raw files) in PSE 9.

Hi John,

Thanks for your prompt answer.

I will try the DNG Converter except it means I will have double copies of each file or pick which ones I want to convert.

I'm not really eager to upgrade to PSE15 at this time, as there is not much I cannot do with PSE9 and some plug-ins from Topaz.

Also I am not really attracted by its simplistic UI

Thanks and Regards

Cyrus
