5.0 was released about 17 years ago. I can't get 5.0 to even install. You are in for a tough time to get organizer to respond--- it was designed for windows OS's that have not been supported / discontinued for years.
Here is a link to the latest version: https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/try-elements.html?utm_campaign=cv-nwmp-ae2023&utm_...
More about the difficulties you face:
On December 15, 2012, activation servers for Adobe Creative Suite 2 applications were shut down, which also affected Photoshop Elements 4.0 and 5.0. Registered users who wished to continue using Photoshop Elements 5.0 after that date could download a new installer from Adobe with a new serial number that could be activated without contacting a server.
Some users and websites had interpreted that Adobe was giving CS2 applications away for free, but Adobe clarified that these were only for registered users and began requiring a valid existing serial number to access downloads.
In May 2019, Adobe stopped providing the downloads entirely.

Glenn,
Not all versions of pse 4/5 had activation.
For example, the ones i bought on CD not ftom the Adobe store do not have activation.

Activation doesn't really matter if you can't get it to install. 17 year old software? "Good enough" and "It works for me" only goes so far. I've tried 3 different downloads from 3 different sites, and couldn't get any of them to install.
"Organizer not responding"- with 17 year old software? definitely time to forget about it, kick it to the curb, bury it, and start using a version that works and is supported.

Hi Glenn and Jeff,
I can testify that the oldest versions of Elements bought on CDs did not require activation (versions 4,5 and 6). The license key was specific to the CD media. I can probably install them again with the original Cds or a copy of the installing softwares I have kept in my archives with the license keys in my archives. There was no need to deactivate. I have reinstalled those old versions several times on my later computers. Of course, Glenn is right that it's not worth the effort to reinstall such old softwares.
What is more important is that PSE5 was the latest version to use Microsoft Access as the database engine of the organizer.
It's still possible to recover (convert) the old catalog backups (catalog.psedb) if still available, which is not likely in the present case.

Peter,
What version of windows are you using?
Has the pse 5 organizer been working?
