Cannot reinstall ON1 plugin after upgrading to PSE 2024

Explorer ,
Feb 11, 2024 Feb 11, 2024

I finally gave in and upgraded to PSE 2024, having struggled with PSE 2022 and Sonoma 14.1.2 (photo bin not working, as well as a whole host of things, including having to convert files to 8-bit before doing certain things). Now I cannot add back my ON1 plugins, even though I've copied across the ON1 plug-in files across to the PSE 2024 plug-ins. I get the attached error message.Screenshot 2024-02-12 at 00.24.32.pngexpand image

Any ideas what I can do to fix this? There seems to be very little info anywhere about using ON1 on PSE 2024. Thank you!

Might be a good idea to unistall/reinstall the ON1 plugins using the latest installer from ON1, since pse 2022 is an Intel native application and pse 2024 is both an Silicon/Intel native application, the installed plugin may be different for Silicon/Intel applications.

Thanks Jeff (and John!) - I was going to try that tonight. I couldn't find anything on the ON1 support site. No doubt I'll have to pay to upgrade that software too to a newer version! A never-ending upgrade expense...

Looks as if ON1 2020 is too old - can't find a way to reinstall so haven't uninstalled. Have emailed their support team to see what might be possible.

Does anyone know if any of the most recent ON1 versions works with PSE2024? I really like using the combination of the two programmes and this is just terrible if I can't! It's all so annoying. Just forked out £70 for something I can't use with my favourite plug-in!

I'm late to this thread, but would like to add that I'm still using ON1 Photo RAW 2019, and have no issues with reinstalling it (recently migrated to a new PC). It's important to sign out of the program before uninstalling, so that there are no license activation issues upon reinstall. I hope you worked it out.

I'm running PSE 2024, and -- unlike under my previous version (PSE 13), the ON1 2019 Resize plugin crashes every time I invoke it. I've tried the latest versions of the ON1 module, both the Resize AI 2023 plugin and the Resize plugin in Photo RAW MAX 2025, and they both crash PSE 2024: the standalone 2023 plugin upon invoking, and the plugin from MAX 2025 upon attempting to save the resize operation. Fortunately, I discovered all of this while running the programs under their 30-day trial offers (i.e., no $$ spent).

I've contacted ON1 technical support, and this was their response as of 1/6/2025: "Unfortunately after looking into this for a while, we have a few open bug tickets that have been open for a few months now. Elements at some point updated and began passing us bad data during the "round-trip" process when using one of our apps like Resize as a plugin. That causes the plugin to work properly up until the save stage, but when you hit the save button it causes that bad data get sent to the ON1 plugin you're using which breaks the entire process leading to an app crash. It's possible that this will be fixed at some point soon, given how much work it looks like our team has put into looking into the issue, but unfortunately we don't have any immediate solutions."

You think you have a problem.  I BOUGHT PSE 2024 through Amazon and paid for it with the credit card.  I am now trying to INSTALL the app.  I have the S/N: but it might as well be  for downloading moon launch.  After two weeks of trying to install I am ready to cancel  the app.  BUT Amazon will not cancel the download.  Do I right this off or file with BBB?

@ Adorable_listener: I hope you got this resolved. For everyone else, Adobe offers a 7-day free trial of PSE, so you can put it though its paces -- including overcoming any installation hurdles -- before buying. Then you can purchase a serial number from any authorized retailer and register the installed trial program.

I have ON1 Effects 2023.5 and it works with pse 2024 on both Intel and Silicon processor Macs.

ON1 does have upgrade pricing.

Thanks Jeff! I discovered this earlier after various attempts to get the old plugins working - I've got a 30 day trial to see if it fulfils my needs - so far so good. Annoying not having the develop plug in too (was good for chromic aberration), but the effects & local tabs should probably do the job. It was free in January, so maybe they'll have a special offer on again 🙂
