[Canon T6i] RAW files not recognized in either elements 12 or elements 15!

I have both elements 12 (the one I usually use), and elements 15.  I have always shot with one of 2 Canon 7D cameras, and loaded the raw files with no problem.

Yesterday I used my back up Canon T6i for the first time for an event.  Neither of the elements versions will recognize the raw files!  I updated elements 12, and it still does  not work.  Says the file types are not supported when I try to upload them.

Elements 15 won't even update.  No matter what I do.  I click update, and it gets to 3% and stops.  I have tried countless times to get that to update thinking that the camera may be too new to work with elements 12.

I need to be able to access these files!  I don't shoot in jpeg, and don't have another program.

Have you tried downloading the free DNG Converter program to convert the Canon RAW files to that format?

The T6i was first supported in Camera Raw 9.0 which is supported out of the box by Elements 15 - no updates required since version 15 shipped with Camera Raw 9.6. Elements 12 will never read those Raw files since it's only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 8.5.

If Elements 15 is not reading those Raw files then something else is wrong. How are you getting the files from camera to computer. Try a different card reader or changing cables.

I have the same situation.  I had to delete and re-download Photoshop Elements 12 due to a problem on my computer.  When I tried to open NEF files in the program, as I did before, it says the files are not supported.  Did something change?  How can I get my program to open my RAW files again?

I downloaded the DNG converter but nothing helps.

My camera is a Nikon D3300.

Yes.

You were running PSE12 with Camera Raw 8.5.

When you reinstalled PSE12, you reverted back to Camera Raw 8.1 which is the version that PSE12 ships with.

Your D3300 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.4. So click Help > Update in PSE12 to reinstall Camera Raw 8.5 and you'll be able to open your Raw files again.

A million thank yous, this did the trick and I am now in business.  I did try to update but it said no updates available but by using the help> Update everything works great!
