Change Colour

New Here ,
Dec 02, 2018 Dec 02, 2018

I have several pieces of artwork which are all in original black.  I was shown how to change the colour by a close friend but he has sadly passed away.

I vaguely remember it's done with the layers, where one of them is the new colour desired.

Would someone please tell me how to do this.

Many thanks.

  1. Open the border file
  2. Duplicate the background layer and shut off its visibility by clicking its eye icon in the layers palette. Work on background copy layer
  3. Go to Enhance menu>Brightness/contrast and increase contrast to maximum and decrease brightness.
  4. Set foreground color chip to green with the color picker
  5. Activate the Magic wand tool, and on the tool's option bar uncheck "Contiguous" and set tolerance=15
  6. Left click on the central white area and hit delete on the keyboard
  7. Open a Color fill adjustm

I don’t have a clue what you are converting. If you desire meaningful input you should provide more information.

I’m trying to convert the Black on White artwork (as sent in earlier post) into a colour using Photoshop Elements. I can get as far as the end, with the three layers, and the centre layer with the colour on it, the top one being the original B&W artwork and a lower one.

It’s the final part where I need to do the actual conversion, with the colour over the border instead of over the white background. It’s finding the ‘Blend’ function etc. I need to know where it is.

I think you are mixing the two entirely different methods.

The first is hatstead's (msg #19).

The other is mine (msg #24).

The only reference to "Blend" is in mine.

Have you tried my method?

FYI, the Blend Mode is the pull-down list in the Layers Palette. The default is Normal.

In my example I changed it to Screen.

I had previously posted another method, but when I look today the post has mysteriously disappeared.

Here it is again:

Add a Solid Color Fill layer and choose your color.

Set the layer's Blend Mode to Screen.

To change to a different color double-click the thumbnail in the Layers Palette to bring up the Color Picker.

Note that if the background is not pure white (RGB 255,255,255) it will also change color.
