change photoshop elements default save format

New Here ,
Jan 08, 2023 Jan 08, 2023

Sometimes when I click "save", my .jpg saves as .jpg,

other days my .jpg saves to .bmp,

other days .jpg saves to psd.

Why won't it just save in the format of the file I am working on?

If I wanted to change the format, I would choose "save as", but I do not want to change it.

Why does it RANDOMLY choose a format different from what I am working with?

How do I change settings so that if I click "save" it just saves it rather than changing it?

Let me clarify this for you. I'll help you figure this out.

Photoshop elements decides the appropriate file format depending on the type of document you're trying to save. A layered document will prompt the file to be saved as PSD & a flat document may be saved in the original file format or JPEG.
