choosing printer

I use Photoshop 12 on WinPro7.  I have been using an HP Photosmart 6520 printer whose black printerhead just died (after 6 years of loyal, quality use).  I could trust that the image I saw on my screen in PS was the image that would be printed wrt color, clarity, brightness.  I tried an HP 6978 at the recommendation of HP.  That was a nightmare: hard to load 4x6....printed VERY dark, with high color saturation (not saying lots of ink, just INTENSE color) and not clear compared to the monitor.  I exchanged that for the HP 8710....easier paper loading, but different image problems.....I have to jack up the sharpening to even TRY to get a clear print.  I am printing on the "best" setting on glossy paper.  All of that info is chosen in the Adobe Photoshop printing dialog boxes.  I have to print 3-4 copies so that I can 'correct' the image in the PS to 'fool' the printer into a nice print.  That is ridiculous.  Does anyone have a recommendation of an all-in-one printer that communicates well with Adobe PS?  I am looking at 2 different Epsons for another exchange, and I need a speedy answer if you will be so kind....the clock is ticking on the BestBuy return policy.   HELP!
