Is this tool no longer available or do I need to upgrade to a different version?

Thanks John. I used to use Photoshop v7 which had a pointer took that allowed me to 'click' my way around an irregular portion of an image in order to crop it from the background. I also see this referred to as "Tool A" in PSCC. However, I don't see this same tool in PSE14.

I guess my question is - does it still exist and I need to upgrade, or has it been replaced with a different tool?

I am not a proficient user and rely on  a limited number of tools to accomplish my tasks.

Thnx,

Clive

I assume you mean Photoshop 7 (not Photoshop Elements 7). There is no Tool A in Photoshop CC.

No, there is no clipping path (no pen) in Photoshop Elements.

Again, thanks. What version/package should I get in order to get that tool? (Last question - I promise)

I believe it's only in Photoshop (not Elements).

You can still do it in PSE14 which you already own.  You use Quick Selection tool and select the part of the image you are interested in and then you click on "Add a mask button to paste the selection on it.

The quick selection tool is this:

Add a mask button is this:

The above button is normally at the bottom of the screen on right-hand side by default but some of us like to have it at the top and so we have customized I to mimic main-stream Photoshop.

In my picture it is greyed out because I just tested it before posting this as seen in my picture above.  I created a mask to isolate one of the cakes from the main picture

Hope this helps.
