Cropping

New Here ,

When I open a picture in "edit" and attempt to crop it, it totally destroys the picture.  Can't open it again after that.

Hi,

We would like to try and help you but we need some information.

Which operating system are you running on?

Which version of PSE are you using?

Has this just started happening?

Are you using the organizer and selecting an image then click on edit?

Brian

Windows 10

Photoshop Elements 9

I use edit rather than Organizer as too many pictures load there. With edit I can select from my files of pictures.

It' s been happening for months now (you can tell I don't use it much). But I'm getting pictures ready to put into my genealogy program, so do need to crop.

I did find the problem, unless you can tell me better. I watched a how to video under support and saw options to change cropping at top left of screen. I had mine set for "custom", and when I changed it I was able to crop as needed.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated.

Is the goal to place head-shots into the program? If so, you can use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select an object, then copy/paste it into the destination document. That would avoid incorporating extraneous information.

Thank you. Afraid this old gal has forgotten how to use those tools effectively. Am good with cropping and cleaning up, or finding a picture that has a good background.
