I have a Windows 7 64-bit computer that is running the 64-bit version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 13. The computer is then hooked up to an Epson 10000XL. In the past the scanner was able to directly import images straight into Photoshop Elements 12, but with the 64 bit version of PSE 13 WIA is used to import scanned images into Photoshop.
After looking through the forums here I saw a staff member comment that the 64 bit version of PSE 13 does not support TWAIN (Re: Does Elements 14 support TWAIN ) as well as regular members state the same (Where is the TWAIN plug-in for Photoshop Elements 13? ) .
In addition, after inquiring with Epson they confirmed the same to me: the 32 bit version of Photoshop Elements will work with TWAIN in order to scan directly from within/or import to Photoshop (since Epson/TWAIN drivers were 32 bit). 64 bit software programs would not be compatible however, ie the 64 bit version of PSE 13.
I was curious if anyone knew Adobe's official reasoning or had an official statement from Adobe that explained why the 64 bit version of Photoshop Elements 13 dropped support for TWAIN?
Also I've seen varying opinions about the feasibility of installing the 32 bit version of PSE 13 onto a computer with a 64 bit OS. Is it confirmed that trying to install the 32 bit version of PSE 13 will not work? I'm mostly interested in the possibility of installing the 32 bit version of PSE 13 to restore the TWAIN plug-in function to this computer/scanner combo. Thanks for the help!

The reason is there is no Twain 64 bit for windows operating systems.
For some reason adobe has made it so the 32 bit versions of 13 thru 15 will not install on 64 bit operating systems.

Is this 'official' enough?
