Hello, I am assuming that the import function creates copies of the originals, so if I delete from the catalog and remove from the hard drive does the original still remain? The point of the excercise being to remove photos and screenshots entirely.

of course I could just experiment, but i'de rather ask first.

thanks

No.  Your assumption is wrong. The Organizer is a database program that merely keeps track of the files stored on your computer. If you are importing files from your camera (or smartphone or a card reader), the files will be copied to your computer.  But that only means that you have one original file stored on your computer.  It is possible to delete files from the Organizer's catalog (database). You are then given the option to delete the file from your hard drive.

Good to know thanks. The word import is a misnomer. I kind of assumed that it would be a link to the original file because of the odd file naming.

The short answer is that the downloader never creates copies of originals when importing for files and folders and that it creates copies on your computer when importing from camera and card readers, the originals staying on the card or camera unless you choose to delete them.

Experimenting would be a good idea.
