Editing smart objects is not available in Elements, it's a Photoshop feature.

Have a look at the very affordable add-on Elements+

https://elementsplus.net/

and see the section about smart objects.

I looked at it but when I go to "purchase the full version" it tells me the website is a security risk. I tried using both Safari and Firefox and they both give me all sorts of warnings. I was wondering if there was somethig else out there.

Same here due to their website security certificate being out of date. I sent an email to the website owner to let him know about it.

Nevertheless, FYI, I still purchased from there with no issues.

FYI, the owner of the Elements Plus website just emailed me to say that he has renewed the site's security certificate. So there should be no more errors.
