Hi, apologies I am a complete beginner and have just downloaded elements. I have searched the forum but can't find the answer.
I I have a .ai file I created using Inkscape. I have opened this in elements and want to edit the text and images but it seems as if it's just one complete photo and gives no option to select certain text or pictures.
How do I load this so that I can edit the text as if I was starting with a blank canvas and using the text tool?
Thanks

Is the text in its own layer?

As Peru Bob implies, if you don't have the document in separate layers then the text is integrated with the image and is therefore uneditable. If you have the original image it might be best to start again by opening it in Elements and adding the text there.

Basically when you save or export a file from inkscape in file format that pse 15 can open, the file is flattened and there will be no layers in pse 15.
Photoshop elements is basically only a pixel editor, while inkscape is a vector editor.
It would be better to edit the text and images in inkscape.
For example, with pixel images that are imported linked, one edit those in photoshop elements by setting the
external editor in the inkscape preferences, right click on the image in inkscape and click on Edit Externally.
There is a good inkscape manual here:
