ELEMENTS 13 IMPORTS NON-HIGHLIGHTED PHOTOS INTO EDITOR

New Here ,

I'm a longtime Elements 13 user in Windows 10, but this is a recent problem.  I always highlight my desired source   photos from Saved Pictures or my  other  photo files, and then drag & drop them into Elements Editor.  After editing, I successfully save them in Expert using Process Multiple files.  But a few days ago, right on the heels after  my highlighted photos have been saved, all the other non-highlighted   photos in that same source folder also quickly flash  thru the PSE editor to my destination folder  despite not  ever being  highlighted  by me for moving into Elements.  This is a new problem for me.  I can stop this runaway process after a few unwanted photos by repeatedly clicking ESC and the upper right corner X.    But I'm then still stuck with unselected files in my destination folder.  Is this a problem with my Elements (corrupted?) or with something wrong with my  Windows?  Any simple help for this non-techie guy would be appreciated.

The automatic process you are describing looks like the 'watched' folders service.

Menu: File >> watched folders... or the organizer.

Check if the source file folder (or its master folder) is included in the folders list. Delete it if you don't want it to be automatically scanned and added, or choose 'notify me'.

By the way, strictly speaking, you don't import in the editor, you import (index) in the organizer catalog.

Michel, thanks for responding. I always successfully drag  & drop  my photos directly into  Element's  Guided Editor, but  I save  using Expert's options.  As I have no need for the Organizer, I simply always bypass it.   But I just tested your idea by dragging some pix into Organizer, and then I  checked  out the "Watch Folders" function as you suggested. Organizer defaults to NOT applying Watch Folders, and a pop-up showed the required  positive actions on my part if I desired to activate Watch Folders, actions which I've never taken or even been aware of. So the problem remains. But thanks.

You could try to check if the 'process multiple files' command works as expected.

You can choose to process all files in a given folder (not your case),

or process all opened files.

That does not mean 'selected' files (highlighted in the photo bin), that means all opened files in the editor.

Does the process also include non opened files?

Michel,  I hope I'm understanding what you're saying.  In my case:

--Whatever is  in the Elements "Expert" editing bin/tray  at the bottom of the screen   (plus whatever specific image is displayed in large size) always saves properly to my destination folder using the Process Multiple Files command.   I'm still happy with that normal process which I've used for years.

--The  problem is that once my edited photos have  been saved to my destination, the entire  remainder of my source folder that wasn't highlighted in the source folder  or visible in the editor  tray   then   transits thru the editor (each for a fraction of a second)  and is automatically saved  to my destination folder.  It's as if I've highlighted ALL  the photos in my source folder, except I never see the unwanted images  until they pass thru my Expert editor for a fraction of a second  en route to my destination folder, all  against my will.

--By the way, my intentional   bypass of the  Organizer results in neither my highlighted/chosen photos or the balance of the source folder ever showing up in the Organizer, which is fine I assume.

I hope this makes sense.

I have no explaenation for that unusual behaviour.

I can only susptect a corruption of your preferences and recommend to 'reset preferences on next launch' from the preference menu in the editor.

Thanks, Michel, for your response. As suggested, I clicked:  Edit/Preferences/General  and then was presented with  an options list with some boxes already checked, which I assume are Elements defaults.   I changed nothing because I couldn't understand any of the options listed.  I did click "Reset preferences on next launch" as suggested.  But upon relaunch and a test with some pix,  the problems remain.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd sure appreciate it.
