Elements 14 won't recognize my iPhone

New Here ,
Dec 05, 2016 Dec 05, 2016

All of a sudden my PC won't recognize my iPhone 6s to upload snapshots into Photoshop Elements 14.  I have tried restarting Photoshop Elements several times and the whole computer twice and have had no better luck. I tried doing online chat with Adobe only to be told that they stopped supporting version 14 yesterday and will not help me.   Until today I have uploaded photos many times successfully and I'm out of ideas to make this work.  Leslie Glenn in Overland Park, KS

Hi Leslie,

Please mention your OS and it's version where you face this issue.

Also, since you mentioned that it was working fine earlier, so have you done any changes like OS upgrade after which you saw this issue?

Thanks,

Arshla

And the only other thing I can think of is that I bought an iPod nano to use with Audible audio books.  ITunes keeps starting up because my phone is plugged in.  However, I have also tried plugging in a Canon digital camera that I have owned for 15 years and it won't recognize the Canon camera, either.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for the info. Lets try to solve your iPhone issue first.

Please respond to following queries:

  • Is your iPhone getting detected in iTunes?
  • Are you able to download/upload media to/fro iPhone using iTunes?
  • Is APD (Adobe Photo downloader) able to detect iPhone? If not, does it show any error. If so, please attach snapshot.
  • Another case might be, your iPhone getting detected by APD but no media is shown. If that is the case, have your pressed 'Trust' button on iPhone after connecting to PC.
  • Are you shown an entry in Windows autoplay when you connect your iPhone?

Please let me know if there are any queries.

From your questions it sounds like all of this may have been created by iTunes being installed on this computer so that I can download audio books from Audible to my iPod nano. Frankly, I am not sophisticated enough to be able to answer your questions. Since I have a laptop that I can use for the audio books and just leave the Photoshop Elements on this computer, I think the easiest thing for me to try right now is to uninstall iTunes on this computer and see if that move will restore my ability to upload photos from either my iPhone or digital camera. I can say that I have pressed the “Trust” button on the iPhone several times and I don’t recall ever seeing an error. I know the phone is being detected in iTunes.

Well, I just uninstalled iTunes and rebooted the computer. It didn’t help. Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 still won’t recognize my iPhone.

Hi Leslie,

Some more queries:

  • When you say 'Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 still won’t recognize my iPhone', does APD shows any error or if it crashes.
  • Does APD shows 'iPhone' as an entry in APD?
  • When you connect iPhone are you shown windows autoplay (a notification on bottom side saying 'Select to choose what happens with this device')? If so, try to select 'Photos' (default windows photos app) and see if Photos app detects the iPhone. Ideally in this case, Photos app should launch and should show media from iPhone. Is this happening at your end.

Please let me know if you  need more info on any of the above queries.
