Elements 15 crashes when adding text to layer in Editor

Community Beginner ,

This is a continuation of my previous question which appeared to be resolved on 14 August 2017.  However, the problem has now recurred and I have tried every solution proposed plus I have also taken the extreme step of trawling through the Windows Registry and deleting any reference to Elements 12, as well as deleting any Program files or folders relating to Elements 12.  I then uninstalled Elements 15, restarted the computer and then re-installed Elements 15 but the problem remains.  I still get the message "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."

I am at my wit's end - can anyone help me with a solution to this problem, please?

Margaret

Are you working on Windows 10?

If yes, please go to location

C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport\PSE<version no>

and rename the files present there.

Thanks,

Anwesha

Yes, I am using Windows 10 64-bit.  The Type Support folder contains 2 sub folders - CS6 (containing AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst) and PSE15 (containing AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst, AdobeFnt_CommonFonts.lst and AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst).  What do I rename these files to?

Also, as the "initialise text engine" error message was present in my copy of Elements 12 on this computer as well as in Elements 15, could the problem be related to Windows 10 - possibly a corrupted DLL?  I have also installed Elements 15 on my laptop (Toshiba Portege running Windows 10 Professional 64-bit) and it does NOT have this problem with the text engine.

Regards

Margaret

You can rename these files to

AdobeFnt_CMaps_old.lst

AdobeFnt_CommonFonts_old.lst

AdobeFnt_OSFonts_old.lst

Well, that seems to have done the trick!  The text engine appears to be working OK and, fingers crossed, I now have a working copy of Elements 15.  I'll let you know, of course, if things go pear-shaped again but I can now get back to organizing and annotating my photos.

Do I have to do anything else with the renamed Type Support files (eg delete them)?

Many thanks for your expert help.

Regards

Margaret
