Hi,

Please try resetting brush tool. For instructions, see Use Photoshop Elements tools

Now see if the tool works correctly.

Thanks,

Arshla

Are you sure you are starting with the foreground/background icon to default (black/white, shortsut D)?

If you can't reduce the effect, you can exit the guided mode to the 'expert' mode to see the layers palette.
- invert the foreground/background to white over black (shortcut X)

- click on the mask of the upper layer on the right

- select the brush tool and its size and opacity and paint on the mask to reveal progressively the original image.

Hi martinn,

Thanks for posting in Adobe Forum.

I understand you are facing issue with your brush tool in Adobe Elements.

Could you please try the following steps:

Firstly,

- Open Photoshop Elements

- Click "Edit"

- Click "Preferences"

- Click "General"

- Click " Reset preferences on the next launch"

- Re-open the program & test "Brush Tool" again.

If this doesn't help you then secondly,

- Select "Brush Tool"  from the toolbox.

- Click the  Reset_Tool_2.PNG to open the menu in Tool Options.

- Click "Reset Tool" or "Reset All Tools"  Reset_Tool_1.PNG

- Restart Adobe Photoshop Elements & test "Brush Tool"  again.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Regards

Dhananjay
