Elements 2018: Catalog could not be opened due to an internal programming error

New Here ,
Jun 24, 2018 Jun 24, 2018

I have recently upgraded Photoshop Elements from 2011 to 2018 on my Mac. All worked fine, I had successfully converted the catalog from my previous version. Meanwhile I added a few hundred additional photos, tagged them, created new tags and so on.

Now on starting the program I get the message "Catalog could not be opened due to an internal programming error".

I had no shutdown of my Mac in between the time that the program still worked. iTunes etc. are not activated.

Does anybody have an idea, what to do? I need access to my >50,000 tagged photos.

5. Once updates are installed, again open Organizer, in file menu select Manage Catalogs.

6. Click on Convert, a dialog will open.

7. In the opened dialog, click on the checkbox next to "Show Previously Converted Catalogs", you'll see a catalog.

8. Select the catalog, and click on Convert.

Hi

thank you for your instructions.

All steps 1 - 6 worked as described.

Step 7: the Checkbox „show previously converted catalogs“ can not be checked. The menu shows only the catalog from the previous Elements version that had been renamed my installation of Elements 2018. I assume I could convert it again, however, I have already included and tagged some additional 300 photos with Elements 2018 which would obviously not be in that catalog. Before I tag them all again, I wanted to check whether there is a way to get back to my earlier converted catalog under Elements 2018.

Thank you.

Christian Harm

Hi Christian,

As the previous catalog can't be opened due to error the new additional images imported by you would have to be reimported after converting the catalog. Your old catalogs are not impacted with the error and they can be used again in Elements 2018 after conversion.

Thanks
