Elements 9, canon 6D, mac iOS 11 help

Hi

I really need help with establishing a workflow for raw to ready (processed, edited jpeg) using my canon 6D with photoshop elements 9 on my Mac IOS 11.

I am not interested in upgrading but am confused about 1)whether camera raw is built into pe9 and 2)if I can/should use Adobe bridge or 3)if I have to  use a dng file converter because of the conflicts in system requirements.

I am convinced you'll have to use the DNGconverter, but that's not because of conflicts, it's simply because no old editor version (not only from Adobe) can understand a file format created much later after the editor has been programmed.

There is a version of camera raw included as a plugin in PSE9 (version 6.5)

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

The 6D requires version 7.3 - the 6D Mark II requires version 9.12.

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

You download the CR2 raw files from your Mac downloader to your computer.

You do a batch conversion of that download to the DNG raw format (same quality and advantages).

You import in your catalog 'From Files or Folders'.

Right. My original question was based on those articles being that the canon 6D requires min 7.3 but pe9 max is 6.5.

So confused still about how I will download them in raw format to Mac computer without this plug in.

Further will using the canon software dpp complicate things more or by pass all of this converting?

I don't know anything about Macs, but they can download picture files from your cameras without the help of Elements. I'll leave expert Mac users guide you in the process.

The dpp software is certainly able to download the files and to do the conversion without using the Elements ACR. The usual practice is to convert and edit in dpp, then if you want to do further editing in the Elements editor (not ACR), you save a .TIF format copy of your edited file. The editor in Elements will open it.

Obviously, an integrated workflow with Adobe softwares is an advantage. On the other hand, the difference of quality is mainly dependent on the skills of the user. The Canon software may offer small advantages, like  better 'Canon camera settings' rendering. Not decisive in my case since I can achieve my best result much faster in ACR.

As far as I know, Bridge has only been bundled with Elements in a single Mac version (8 or 9?)

As I am only a Win user, what I can tell you is that it is possible to install the current version of Bridge bundled with Photoshop CC without subscribing to the Photographers plan. However, Bridge in itself needs either Photoshop or Elements to use the ACR engine: the full one for Photoshop, the limited one in Elements. I don't use Bridge myself, but I understand that users accustomed to Photoshop and Bridge are very happy with the combo. I am partial to the organizer, that true, but it seems to me that someone begining with Elements will find the trio Editor, Organizer and ACR module more homogenous and powerful.

I don't know... If nobody gives the answer, I'll have a look tomorrow.

Edit:

that seems unlikely; I have not found a way to set an external editor like you can do in the Organizer.
