Elements Photo Storage

New Here ,

Hi all

I have Lightroom set up so that my Catalogue is on my Mac but the images are on an external drive.

I've just downloaded Elements to my girlfriend's MacBook for her but I can't see how to replicate this set up for her using Organiser 15. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA

GPR

I don't see any important difference in the way the organizer and Lightroom manage the files location. In both cases you have a catalog which stores the location on your drives; that can be internal or external.

In both cases you have to 'import' the files into the catalog (either from  camera/card reader or from files/folders).

Hi Michel

Thanks for your reply.  I've made progress with this problem to a degree.

I have imported some of her photos that she took recently directly from a card-reader.  This worked perfectly and we managed to set up her external drive with her image files on.  The problem seemed to be that Elements didn't like images being imported from an external drive so I may have to export them to a memory card and bring them in via that.

All a bit odd but she at least is able to use Elements now.

It should be possible in Organizer using:

File > Get Photos & Videos >> from Files & Folders

Navigate to the folder on the external drive and use Cmd+A to select all and click Open or get Media.

If there is a main parent folder with sub folders you can use Cmd+A to select all the sub folders.

Just take care in case she is using the Photos App or iPhoto. You want to avoid referencing the same photos on the external drive by different photo management apps.
