Hello!
I'm trying to use the text tool in Elements 2023, and instead of starting a new line when I press Enter it commits changes instead of starting a new line like it's supposed to. I've already tried playing around with font size and leading like another pst here suggested, and none of it's worked. Can anyone please advise? I have a project with a deadline, and not being able to do something as basic as start a new line of text is awful!
Thanks!

Do you have a laptop?
Are you using the Enter key on the keyboard or the Enter key on the Numeric Keypad?
The Enter key on the Numeric Keypad is the same as clicking on the Green check mark.
The Enter or Return key on the main keyboard is the one that goes to the next line.
What happens if you use Shift+Enter?

I'm using a laptop with no numeric keypad attached, so there's only one Enter key available. Shift + Enter also commits changes, annoyingly enough. One of the support representatives tried resetting all of my settings and whatnot, which did absolutely nothing.

Verify that in the Type Tool options that Leading is set to Auto.

It defaults to Auto, and I didn't mess with it until I saw someone on here suggest it as a possible solution. No matter what I set it to the outcome is the same (Enter committing changes).

Did you check other programs to verify the Enter key starts a new line when typing?
Suggest you reset the photoshop elements 2024 editor preferences by going to
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\21.0
and deleting the
Editor folder

The Enter key works perfectly in every other program, it's just Elements 2023 that's acting up. And the customer service person I worked with deleted that folder already. No dice.

You could try a reset of the preferences from within photoshop elements
by going to Edit>Preferences>General clicking on Reset Preferences on next launch
then restarting the photoshop elements editor.
Do you have any third oparty plugins installed?
If so, skip loading the third party plugins by pressing the Shift key just after starting the launch of the photoshop elements editor and you should get the following dialog, then see if the Type Tool works right.

I don't have any added plug-ins yet, and I've already reset those settings twice, once on my own and once through CS remote support.

Perhaps you have access to an external keyboard which you can plug into your computer in order to test the enter key function with the Type tool.

No, but it works correctly with the on-screen keyboard.

If it works with the on screen keyboard, then it would be worth trying to somehow get an external keyboard to test.
What brand and model laptop do you have?
There could be some keyboard setting that affects photoshop elements that we're just not seeing.

It is a Gateway GWTN141-10. Not the best by any means, but minus this one dang key in this one dang program it does most of what I need it to.
