New user: I cannot see how to export an edited photo so I can e-mail it. "export" is greyed; Share is only to Social Media I do not use. It must surely be simple?

The 'Export' function has no meaning in the Elements Editor itself except if you use rare external plugins.
The organizer is there for more export options, .sharing, backup and creation functions, and there you can share your files in various ways including by email.

Important:
In your case, 'exporting' means mainly creating copies that you can send as 'attachments' to your mail from your favorite mail software. So you can simply use the 'export as new files' features of the organizer or you can use the editor to 'save as' your files as copies on your desktop or where you want. Your mail software knows how to attach or embbed pictures with the mail text.
The mail solution provided by the organizer implies that the user wants to send the selected images directly from Elements via a connection between Elements and the mail service. You have to configure that cooperation as well as your address book. Mail services are very prudent to allow such cooperation, particularly Gmail. My advice is to simply to export or save as from a temporary folder as explained in the previous paragraph.
