Favorite tools and/or techniques?

For those who use Elements just for fun/personal enjoyment like I do, what tools or techniques produce the most interesting/appealing/satisfying effects for you? (from an abstract or minimalist art perspective)

I enjoy trying various combinations just randomly, but as a newbie I'm sure there must be certain effects that I probably wouldn't stumble upon in a hundred years. Do you have any enduring faves?

On Facebook, there is a group called "Photoshop Elements Custom Tutorials." One can ask to join the group - free!  There are other groups as well.
