file stucture then importing

New Here ,

I have all my photos and videos on an external SSD drive. They are labelled in folders and subfolders with various things I can recognize Jamaica trips, Grandma, Football trips and on and on. They are labelled like this because it is easier to look at and find what I want and to create new folders for life events.

I haven't put anything into the organizer yet but if I was to import everything in that external drive into the organizer will that same file structure be visible in the organizer under "My Folders"? I do realize once in the organizer I can use time history, tags, slideshows, albums, create movies with photo's and video's but I always want to have that base file structure.

Would it be best to create that file structure on the computer hard drive somewhere and then use the two external hard drives I have connectd as my backups?

I ask because I imported a number of photos from my iPhone and under My Folders in the organizer was a list of folder dates and I have no clue what is in a dated folder unless I open it.

You are looking at the Folders in 'List' view. Switch to the 'Folders view' to see the folder tree.

The organizer manages your files where they are in a catalog. There are no files 'in the organizer', only links in a catalog.
