Hi Guys,
Is there anybody here that can tell me, why my copy of Photoshop Elements 2020 keeps freezing?
I have had 2020 for a while and it has always done the same thing.
I thought it was my crap computer, so I didn't worry about it too much. I have just built a machine that would make most gamers cry! And guess what, the stinking 2020 still freezes for about 5 or 6 mins. At a time
Needless to say, I’m not happy!! Need some advise from you guys. It’s not much use asking Adobe (If one could even contact them) because they don’t care about after sales service!!
So, any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Guys.

Mac or Windows? Tell us about your computer specs.
Can you describe the freezing symptoms in more detail? Can you launch PSE? Does it freeze randomly or during specific tasks?

Hey John,
Thank you for responding to my problem!
Elements 2020 Launches Fine. It Freezes as soon as I use most of the tools, especially Fonts.
It just stops responding. Which lasts for about 5 to 6 minutes.
I have a copy of Photoshop CS6 Extended which does not blink wrong.
Photoshop CS loves my new Rig, which has:
An ASUS X670E E. DDR5 Motherboard
Ryzen 9 7950X3D AM5 4.2 GHz CPU
Corsair 64GB 5600MHz DDR5
Samsung 990 PRO 2TB SSD
ASUS RTX 4080 16GB
Corsair AX1600i 1600W Power Supply
HAF 700 EVO Case
Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Installed on September/01/2023
Photoshop Elements 2020 on the other hand hates everything.
Well John, I sure would love it if you can figure this one out!!
regards,
Gene

Prior to extensive troubleshooting, one suggestion would be to uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool then reinstall.

Are you installing from DVD or a downloaded installation file?

Hi John,
I don't have a DVD drive anymore. So I had to download a copy. But this was a clean Install on a NEW drive. I can't see how doing it again would make any sense.

Agreed if it was a new install on a new hard drive. Others have had success with the Cleaner tool but may not apply here.
Where to next for constant freezing on a brand new install? Adobe does have a list of troubleshooting steps here but they seem like long shots the further I go down the list.

Another option is to try running the free trial of the current PSE2023 and see if the same issues exist.

Do you have a wi-fi printer? If so, change the default printer to something else - even a pdf printer.
If that is not the issue , we need a far more detailed description of each step you are taking before the program freezes, starting with booting the computer, the type of file you are working on, and whether you are using the Organizer.

Hey Guys,
Well, I tried a downloaded version of Photoshop Elements 2023 and to my surprise it didn’t do anything wrong.
So, where does that leave us with 2020. I have noticed, while been on this Forum just how many people have the same problems.
As far as messing with my printer goes. I dont't think the printer has anything to do with it! My version of CS6 plays the game as it should! As I said 2023 didn't do a thing that it wasn't sopposed to?
I think Adobe should do the right thing and put out a FIX for it.
Look forward to your reply (if any)
Regards
Gene

Good to hear that Elements 2023 does not freeze.
Regarding Elements 2020, I'm not sure if there's anything useful we can reply with.
Unfortunately, Adobe definitely won't be updating PSE2020 since they only support the current version and the one immediately prior: that would now be 2023 and 2022.

Well that settles it then doesn't it. Since you don't want to answer our trouble-shooting questions, there's not much we can do to help you.

Greg, I don't think you guys can figure this out, or you would have already!
It’s been about 3 years!!
I now have a real Software Engineer looking at it for me.
So, take care! Been nice talking to you guys!
PS, I will never have anything nice to say about Adobe from now on!!!
